Memorial day party with a purpose!

ree

A kickoff event was held for the S.O.A.R. Foundation over Memorial Day weekend. A community picnic was hosted at The P.E.E.R. Center, a day shelter open to all. Guests were served barbecue food, drinks and snacks while a DJ played music. People were able to sign up for free cellular phones from SafeLink Wireless. Snow cones, cotton candy, and popcorn were available at the concession stand. One of the most appreciated aspects of the event was definitely the barbers who cut practically non-stop.

We were able to grant a warm and joyful Memorial Day to those who needed it most. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to provide everyone with reusable toiletries bags and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories.

David Thornton, Founder of the S.O.A.R. Foundation was on hand to meet with everyone and act as our master of ceremonies. He ran the raffle giveaway and ensured the day went smoothly. P.E.E.R. Center Executive Director Juliet Dorris-Williams was also on hand providing resources and kindness to those in need. She made sure that the message of the day and the message that community members were receiving was not lost, there is hope together.
